Clinical Psychologist Siouxsie is a welcoming, compassionate, innovative Clinical Psychologist who enjoys connecting and working with people to support them to heal, grow and thrive. During her 15 years as a Clinical Psychologist working in Private Practice as well as across a range of health settings she has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in supporting people with life transitions and skill building to address a wide-ranging array of issues including pain and health-related issues, anxiety, mood disorders, phobias, substance and addiction issues, grief and loss, career, confidence, communication, interpersonal and communication issues. Siouxsie utilizes evidence-based psychological techniques and/or hypnosis to assist people to achieve their goals. Underpinning Siouxsie’s work with people is the groundbreaking theory and research of Neuroplasticity. This is the discovery that the brain is able to constantly learn, adapt and change. With repetition neural pathways are formed which literally make the behavior (and even responses such as pain or emotional reactions) more habitual. In the case of helpful learning this is wonderful and leads to mastery. However, even in the case of unhelpful behaviours and beliefs the great news is that the more you resist an old unhelpful habit and do something different the easier it gets. Literally new pathways form and like building muscles, strengthen each time you use them. In order to facilitate this Siouxsie uses a variety of evidence-based techniques matched to the clients needs including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness Based Techniques, Hypnosis and Visualisation, Motivational Interviewing, Substance and Impulse Control management strategies, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Pain Management Techniques. Siouxsie is passionate about working with people to help them achieve balance, growth and resilience. She enjoys collaborating with clients to support them in fostering wellbeing and developing habits that work for them rather than against them. |

Hypnosis:
Hypnosis is the process by which a person induces an altered state of attention or degree of awareness in another person. The process may result in a variety of phenomena, which occur spontaneously or in response to verbal or other stimuli. These phenomena include: alternations in consciousness and memory; increased susceptibility to suggestion; the production of responses and ideas unfamiliar to the person in the normal state of mind; or changes in behavior, perceptions, or psychological processes.
Hypnosis can also occur naturally when a person has become totally absorbed in what they are doing. Thus, like day-dreaming, hypnotic-like states may occur in people regularly.
Hypnosis is not the same as sleep. It is not like an anaesthetic. You do not “pass out” and you are not unconscious when you are hypnotised. You do not lose control over your mind or your feelings. You do not weaken or surrender your will to any other person. In fact, your will-power may be strengthened with hypnosis.
In hypnosis, it is usual to feel relaxed, at ease, and you may well enjoy a special peace of mind. Many people comment on their feeling of comfort and security, or the sensation of lightness or floating. What is particularly pleasant about hypnosis is the fact that it is natural and safe when used by trained professionals, and almost everyone can learn to use it by themselves and be helped by it. It can be learned and used by adults, adolescents, and children alike.
Where hypnosis can be used: Hypnosis is particularly useful for helping people change their behavior, symptoms, and attitudes. It is one of the most powerful psychological methods for mental and physical relaxation. Thus, hypnosis is useful for anxiety and stress control, and phobias. It is also useful in dealing with attentional deficits, motivation, assertiveness and confidence building, ego-strengthening and enhancing psychotherapy and counselling.
Pain, Psychological & Psychiatric Applications: Include pain management, anxiety control, motivation training, attitude change, depression, eating disorders, fears and phobias, memory training, nail biting, panic and performance anxiety, sexual dysfunction, sleep disorders, stuttering, study problems, trauma counselling, , migraine, obesity, smoking cessation, gastrointestinal disorders, teeth grinding and thumb sucking.
Siouxsie has a Diploma of Hypnosis, training for 100 hours in Hypnotherapy by Clinical Psychologists and other Medical Professionals who also have expertise in Hypnosis. Moreover, she has successfully completed rigorous exams and case studies over a year in order to achieve the Diploma. She is also a member of the Australian Society of Hypnosis. As such, you can be assured that you are being assisted by an experienced Clinical Psychologist who is also well-versed in many evidenced-based psychological and pain management techniques as well as hypnotic techniques.
