BOTOX can be subsidised by the Federal Government for the treatment of migraines by neurologists. The toxin requires a small co-payment of less than 5% of the cost of the medication. This is arranged by us at the time of your consultation. Certain types of facial pain and headache may not be eligible for PBS subsidised toxin and the specialist doctor will discuss estimated cost of treatment with you if required. |
Procedure and risks
Our rehabilitation specialists use botox by diluting the powder in saline and injecting it directly into neuromuscular tissue, guided by an ultrasound. You may feel a slight sting with each injection. Common side effects include pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.
Patients should avoid using botox during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the risks and side effects have been discussed with the physician.
